Whitney Houston

On the 9th of August in 1963, the artist Whitney Houston was born in Newark, New Jersey. As a child Whitney sang in her local church and during her high school years she became a background vocalist. However with her talent she wouldn’t be kept to the background for long and with the chairman of Arista Records, Clive Davis, she signed to the label at the young age of 19. The first two studio albums that she released were named after her and were called “Whitney Houston”, which was released in 1985, and “Whitney”, which was released in 1987. Both albums managed to reach the number one spot on the Billboard 200 in the United States and even managed to go on to become two of the best selling albums of all time in the world. Whitney has broken a number of world records with the release of her singles and perhaps most notably is that she is currently the only artist to have had seven singles which consecutively reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart from “Saving All My Love for You” in 1985 through to “Where Do Broken Hearts Go” in 1988.
